I have been running for almost 3 months now. Today I accomplished my goal of running 3 miles. I started at two thirds of a mile and added 1/6 of a mile each week. 3 miles may not be a long run for some people, but for 250 pounds of fattjake 3 miles is a pretty good job.
This morning I weighed 249. That means I've lost 13 pounds in about three months. About a pound a week. I'm real happy with that. I have lost weight faster in the past, but this time it wasn't that hard so I feel like I will be able to maintain it. I'm about one third of the way to my goal. If I can lose 26 more pounds in the next six months I will be 223. That is right where I'd like to be.
Most of the functionality in my diet tool at iphone.fattjake.com is working. One thing it lacks is the ability to edit erroneous information. I need a good JavaScript programmer to implement the ability to edit previous entries. Once this is finished a few cosmetic things will need to be done in order to publish the site.

The good news
I have been exercising and dieting now for about three months. I've lost 12 pounds. I have been jogging and can run for about 3 miles, which is great for me. I still have about 25 pounds I would like to lose, but I'm pretty happy with that so far. I have been using a web site that I set up to record my calories and what I eat and my workouts. Check it out iphone.fattjake.com. It is still in beta, but feel free to sign up with an account.

Diet Website
I have now been dieting and working out for about a month. I have been recording everything I eat in a Access database so that I can ultimately record my progress and track what foods and diets seem to be the most doable for me. I am now 257.5, so I have lost 3.5 more pounds since my last post. It may not seem like great progress, but I am pretty happy with it. I have been running, lifting weights, and doing DDR for exercise, and I am up to about 4 or 5 40 minute workouts a week. I hope to get that up to 9 work outs per week, obviously that would mean that some days I work out twice. This is the idea. I have gained back some muscle, so my fat loss is greater than the 3.5 lbs, which is why I am pretty happy with it.
Right now my diet is eating whatever foods I want, but trying to keep the overall calories around 3000 a day. With workouts this is about 500 calories a day less than what I need to maintain weight. I decided that I was going to use access because I have had a really hard time with dieting. I can lose the weight, but I always seem to put it back on. I figure I will try and tailor a diet that is not as restrictive, so that it's something that I can maintain. Ultimately, I would like to eat many of the foods that I like, but watch my protein intake, making sure that it's high enough, and make sure that my overall calories are low enough to maintain a certain weight, maybe around 230 lbs. I think that I could maintain this weight and feel pretty good.
I don't mind working out, so I figure that this will be a long term way to keep in shape, it will also allow me to eat a little more than I could if I didn't work out.
When I get some time I think that I will create a website that is like the access diet database where I can input all of my meals. That way other people can use it as well, maybe I could create a small community around different dieting strategies, etc. There are a few such websites out there already, but I think that I could provide more analysis, the others are simply a food database with a totaling function. I would like to include other analyses such as graphing blood sugar levels throughout the day, functions that calculate BMR based on lean body mass and change as the individual loses weight, etc. I was a personal trainer for a while so I have all sorts of tips and strategies that I could incorporate into the site.
So, watch for fattjake.com to be updated in the next few months. I think I would also like to build an iphone interface as well as a facebook app based on the same ideas.
